MIRI: Minister of Works Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor and his entourage will be here on Monday and Tuesday to inspect various public infrastructure facilities.
IMMEDIATE ACTION: Lee (seated centre) discusses the plans with (from front row right) Ting, Chia, Lai and Mok.
Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development and Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the working visit is on the special invitation of Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Peter Chin, due to the urgent need to improve traffic conditions at Pujut 7 roundabout, particularly during peak hours.
“We are hoping Datuk Shaziman’s two-day working visit will give him first hand information on the need to improve the traffic conditions at the particular affected area,” Lee said during a press conference.
The Senadin assemblyman said the Public Works Department (JKR) has proposed to improve the roundabout under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP).
The proposal involves installing traffic lights as well as widening the roads.
For safety reasons, Lee said traffic lights would be the most suitable long-term solution.
He suggested Miri City Council (MCC) improve internal roads within their jurisdiction to ensure smooth traffic flow in the area.
Lee also requested JKR and MCC conduct a survey on traffic signs, particular at accident prone areas.
Among those present were Pujut assemblyman Andy Chia, Miri Mayor Lawrence Lai , Sebastian Ting – political secretary to the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, JKR Miri divisional engineer Mok Eng Kok and Councillor Koh Ek Chong.
